Long time client wanted to go with a belt drive on his 72" Iron XL we built over a dozen or so years ago for him.
He had his "bud" attempt this with horrible results.
We'll we did it.
Used the trans spocket, via turning the teeth off it, and established a precision counterbore into the belt sprocket after boring it to clear for the mainshaft nut.
Then bolted the trans sproket to the pulley in 4 places 5/16" x 24.
Juggled alignment, then manufatured an aluminum cover that nests into the pulley, just flush.
Came out damn nice if I do say so myself.
Thought I'd make mention of this little project.

Good friend of the shop manufactured(toolmaker) his own belt primary set-up, and used a industrial belt, on 1965, 114" AHDRA Iron XL, back in the day.
He also manufactured his own dual-point distributor, prior to converting it to an electronic ignition.
Saw that bike run many 9.20 passes, with the stock frame cradle.

Hi folks
I'd love to see a pic of either of these bikes. Have a chain drive '89 evo, but am OK with the chain. Would look cool on the ironhead tho'!. How does the primary belt work?
Hope u have some more luck with your hand Gary.
cheers
Andy
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of Duck tape then you're in trouble

We rode the bike and the belt works fine.
Client has not picked it up as of yet.
