I am puting in an EV27 cam, D&D fatcat 2 into 1, SE Ign module, stock CV carb, 170 main, 45 slow, stock needle. Should I go up, I was thinking 180 main, 48 slow. I live at 6300 feet, and the AFR was in the 14's before the changes with the 170 main and 45 slow.95 RK
Thanks,

I am at 5000 ft have an ev27, 2-1 propipe, 175 main, 45 slow jet and a sporster needle

Take it to a (good) dyno tuner.  Well spent money.

The 48 slow jet will be overkill for most applications.  A 45 or 46 slow jet should be more than adequate.  Between sea level and 3000 feet, I suggest a 180, but at higher elveation, the 180 may be too much (don't know).  The sportster needle is good and the N7s needle is good (slightly leaner than XL needle).  The stock needles in many late model applications are not so great (even if you shim them).  However, the most important "other" modification is the idle mixture.  You must drill out the aluminum plug, then turn the screw all the way in, and 2.5 turns out.

Best wishes

+1 for what JohnS said. That 48 will make a relatively stock motor foul plugs like there is no tomorrow.
To make things real easy just purchase the Dynojet kit for the CV40 and follow the instructions. It contains everything you need.

Thanks Guys, Would I use a needle for an 883 or 1200 sportster?
Thanks again for the help,

the needle is from a 1988 sportster, they had no accelerator pump so it is a more aggressive taper....HD part # 27094-88
