I have a 47 EL that I'm putting the heads back together on, I got this bike disassembled in boxes. The previous owner had started to rebuild the motor but lost interest along the way.  All of the guides took some effort to install except for the rear exaust, it sild in without much effort. MY question is how loose is too loose? The guide isn't loose but it can be removed with out much preasure, maybe 50 pounds or so on the press. Everything else is to spec and the seating surfaces are good, I would like to get by with this guide to atleast start the bike, am I fooling myself?

If you think it's loose, it probably is. They should all be the same. As the motor heats it stands the chance of slipping out. If it was me, I'd find an oversize- even .001 would make a huge difference!

Hope it helps.
