Just got the top end back for my 86 FLHTC from the shop. I was going to do the rebuild myself but decided a professional shop has the proper tools and knowledge.   From what I can tell they did excellent work.  For $800 (Cdn $) this is what they did:

Castings cleaned & glass beaded , non painted
Severe duty bronze guides installed
5 angle valve work, including power making hi flow bowl blend
New valve springs and retainers
4 one-piece  hi flow stainless valves. US made!
Heads assembled and ready to bolt on
Cylinders, stress plate honed for over size piston .005
Heads are lightly resurfaced. Ultra smooth and flat PCD finish!
Premium Cometic MLS top end gasket set supplied
Cast OEM style pistons and rings (.005 over) supplied and installed in bores
New rocker cover fastener hardware kit "the cover bolts"
Can of gasket cinch

I have a replacement CV carb for the old butterly, with new air filter, brackets, & cables
New cyl studs (newer design)
SE ignition module with adapter cable
New HD B lifters
Andrews adjustable pushrods
EV 27 cam with new Torrington bearing
Oil pump rebuild kit
Tube of holymar

Now the fun part begins putting it all back together !!!

Yes the butterfly is in good shape and has worked well, I did add the updated acellerator pump, but I like the idea of going to a CV carb.

You will not be dissappointed with the CV carb. Had one on my '86 and loved it.

CV carb will probably stay on your bike.
