Would the trick with a short blow to the check valve ball work on a 59-76 oil pump? Got a problem with oil tank bleed into crankcase garaged.

                  SOMETIMES-----sometimes not!

mostly not.
a trick they taught at harley school 35 years ago entailed taking a stick welder rod.  touching it on a check ball.
then using as a handel lap in the new welded ball to the seat.
clean thourly. put in anouther new ball and try it.
havent had much success at any of the "fixes"
and having to remove motor to remove pump sucks.

mine sumps about a quart if setting 2 months.  i just fire it up and the oil returns to tank after a bit.
some times i drain the sump and tank and start off fresh.
3 quarts and no filter is pretty cheap to do it every thousand miles.

Sifton make a tool for this also, available from V-Twin.  I've heard a chevy small block pushrod is the perfect size for a lapping tool, but haven't tried it.
