94 EVO oil tank hose routing?

I have a 94 Heritage. I just put a 113 Ultima on, and there is some confusion about where to put the oil return line. The pix i attached is how it came off the bike. Port number 1 is the return line, port 2 is the vent. But Ultimas instructions say number 1   ( the outside port is vent ), and number 2  ( inside port next to seat is return ). The Clymer manual has it the way the picture shows, but it has the oil filter reversed? Its got the inside line, closest to the motor as return, and the outside as feed. I am as good as sure this is wrong, because the return comes from the center of the oil filter, and that is routed to the outside port.

Both the hard return and the vent lines on the tank run high up into the inside of the tank before ending nearly side by side. So it doesn't really matter. I'd put the return inboard and the vent to the outside. Return the oil furthest from the feed.

Wouldnt the inside port be the farthest away?
