Does any one know for sure if a xl evo engine will fit or not fit in a 1984-85 iron head frame? I posted this on both sportster sites but got nothing positive any help would be appreciated.

Good friend of mine put a buell in a 78 Jammer frame.  Wasn't bolt in.

I seem to remember the answer is "no", but I cannot verify.

Something about the top tube of the frame not being tall enough.

I do remember this much: it was in the pre-internet days. (Now I'm showing my age!)
Shiny side up, rubber side down.

I know the Evo Big Twin was 1.5" taller than the Shovel, so it will not fit going that way.  Not sure about the Sporty.

This is probably the wrong forum to be asking this question. You will probably receive more informed responses over at the Horse BSC website.

Frame is shorter but if you are cutting out side engine mounts, relocating and resizing rear engine mounts. Raising and stretching the backbone is nothing.  If the frame is free. Why not play and swap necks for numbers and get rid of the 7/8 neck stem.

Anything can be done. Does the time being put in justify it.   Probably not. But for sitting around drinking with my buddies. Priceless. CB750 hardtails get put together like that also.

If you are looking at paying to get this done. Your nuts!

hrdtail Thanks for the info. it was for a friend of mine. His girl has a 84 sporty and he had a chance to pick up a evo motor cheap he wanted to see if it would fit.
