Been a looong time since I've been in a Shovel inner primary and have one on the lift right now. My question is regarding the mainshaft bearing. I don't see any retaining ring on either side of the bearing race but it's VERY rusty. As I'm trying to cure a starter alignment issue due to offshore junk inner and outers I don't want to grenade this inner that I've been keeping around just for this occasion.

Any input will be appreciated.

BTW, when checking the service manual it says: "If bearing shows signs of wear or is rough, replace bearing."  :wtf:
So much for instructions  :crook:

Thanks

I don't remember any retainers on my 73.    I think I just removed the bearing with a seal driver.      Marty

If I recall the only thing holding my inner primary bearing in place is friction and some locktite sleeve retainer for good measure.
