A friend has an 2003 1200 custom. It is bone stock. It is according to him, needing a gearing change. He says it is taching too much at freeway speeds. He wants to slow the rpms a bit at 70 mph.  What is a good fix without a new belt? Are transmission pulleys available that have a one tooth bigger count? IE; 32-33 etc. Or would changing the rear pulley down a couple of teeth be doable? It only has 15,000 miles on it, so a new belt would be a long way down the road from here. TIA

I have a '05 1200C and the engine revs higher than my Road glide at 70 but I see no problem with that. The little Sporty has 7,000rpm ignition module and gets 58 out of first, 78 out of second and 108 out of third. I don't know what forth and fifth will do but it doesn't seem to be taching to much at 70mph.

I don't think he has a tachometer on his. I will tell him your thoughts. Thanks for the reply.

BDL has a 30-tooth, but it would probably only lower the engine speed by about 100 rpm at 70 mph.
Not sure if it would be worth the $$.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll get more into it, and tell him what I have learned so far.

Have a look at the Johnson Twistgear. That puts a big gap between 4th and 5th.
And then the Baker XL6 transmission gives you 6 gears, 6th being an overdrive
Not cheap but one of those two options might be exactly what he is looking for.
