Looking to put some passenger floorboards on my 03 heritage softail to make the longer days easier for my wife. Looking at different blogs and finding fitment issues with the stock harley ones, but my main concern is hearing of bolts breaking... anyone have comments on this, or know of ones without issues??? Just looking for plain simple ones that function well... thx.....

My self and two others use this set for our wife. No issues exept one rubber came out of mine after 5 years. I gave them away and bought a new set, the new owner put new rubber he cut from ?? And their still working for him.

I put the HD ones on our 06' Heritage when it was new. The wife stands on the left side one every time she gets on or off the bike and we've never had any problems with them at all. I bought the brackets from HD and the floorboards on eBay as the price for the complete floorboard kit from HD was quite high and the floorboards on eBay were very reasonable. The factory brackets were easy to install and fit perfectly.

There are several factory sets on eBay for Softails now but most don't appear to have all the bracket parts required to mount them.

I haven't heard of bolts breaking, but I guess it could happen if they are not grade 8 bolts.
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

Actually, the bolts do break. It happened to me. I bought the Harley floorboards. Over a period of time exposed to the weather, the bolts become brittle. One side of the bolts broke so I replaced it. I figure I'll do the other side as well and it broke too while I was wrenching it off. I had to extract the broken bolts. The problem was that the grade bolts that come with the kit are crap, so I recommend pick up grade 8 bolts at the hardware store  with whatever floorboard kit you get, or replace the crap bolts out ever year.

Also, put some lube on the threads. Part of the problem is that the bolts rust or oxidize onto the frame. Cheap bolts can't handle the erosion. The lube will counter the erosion and good bolt will better handle the stress.

Remember, it's not a design flaw. It's a piece of "Potty mouth" bolt problem. Get good American made bolts and problem solved.

I made a set for my wife. I striped the rubber from the footpeg, had a plate cut and welded to the peg, chromed it, used a chunk of rubber doormat for a pad and all done. Use locktite when re installing the peg core to the bike. They have been on for 10 years and she loves 'em
