Do you think there is any advantage of cast iron compared to aluminum? Thanks

if there is, I can't imagine what it would be .... everything else on the later EVOs is alum except the guts

My 87' FXR came with cast iron. My 92 has aluminum. I was thinking maybe the cast iron might be stronger and have better lubricating qualities. I never saw a cast iron lifter bore wear out on a american V8 engine block. Did Harley switch to aluminum just to save some money or was it an improvement?

They switched to aluminum because it's quieter [they made a lot of changes because of noise] the cast iron ones are preferred by some racers but there is nothing wrong with aluminum. It shines up better too!
