It seems like HD got cheap by dropping the pinion gear taper and having a shared t-key drive both oil drive gear and pinion gear on later evo.
Has there been reports of keys being sheared?
Would it be silly to add some loctite 620 between shaft and gear?
Any one make a better fix?

My key sheared off but only because I put on 4 valve heads.I had to weld the spacer and the gear together.

Just posted a picture of a jig I use in the homemade tool section,to tack the pinion and spacer.

EDIT (FSG) :  Add link   JIG TO WELD EVO PINION GEAR & SPACER

Evo160K

My t-key sheared the first time I took the bike out after a 97 ci build, 110 lb-ft.  The builder eliminated the key after that somehow.

John Sach's,   Great idea! This is on a 93-99 set up where the spacer is part of the oil drive gear and most of the key is under that gear. So, if I tach weld the gears together, how much weld am I doing? Like maybe four small tach welds or a bead all around? I guess you don't want the gears to get too hot. Thanks for you kind help.
