883R speedo not working

On a 883r  The speedo just quit working all at once,  They engine light came on when it quit working, The bike seems to run fine,  Any help will be appreciated, Thanks

Try cleaning the speedo sensor in the top of the gearbox.
It can pick up bits of swarf etc that stop it working.

Are there any codes shown on the speedo? I know it can be a bit tedious getting at them. The codes will be listed somewhere on HTT, and if not here they will be somewhere on the internet if you don't have the manual.
And I suppose we should ask - what year 883R?

i know my speedo went out all at once on softail and later on my little ranger pickup, changed the sensors and was good to go. I second that cleaning may work or at least tell if that's the problem.
