here is a pretty well explained way to set up the pilot, pilot jet & needle, and main jets for the mikuni carbs.  I was trying to set the pilot up at curb idle and that is not the best way. at cruise the bike is running on about 1/8 throttle and the neddle still on the straight portion, therefore it is more precise to adjust the pilot air screw for best rpm at 1/8 throttle than at curb idle. by doing so the pilot screw adjustment was at 1 1/2 turns out from bottom. my slow speed jetting and needle had the carb cutting out at 3/4 throttle with  out the main installed. this method although is no dyno it is better than doing it by the seat of the pants with no rhyme or reason. a pretty good way to skin the cat!              http://www.smellofdeath.com/lloydy/jetting.htm
