clicking noise while in gear 08 flhx

There is a clicking noise when my bike is in gear. Nothing while in neutral. Most noticeable in the first 3 gears. The noise will stop 1-2 seconds after I pull the clutch in while riding. Sounds like something is hitting.  Only 24,000 km on bike.
