Can someone tell me the correct oil tank capacity for a 1997 Heritage Softail Classic?? I am thinking 3.5 quarts but am unsure. Getting ready to bring the "project" bike out of storage and want to make sure my fluid levels are correct. I've got 3 quarts in it now (with new filter).

I know I need to get a manual but right now I don't have the extra $60 for a new one from HD. If anyone has one for sale I'd be interested if the price is right.

Did a search for this subject but got no results.

Thanks,

I have found that 3 quarts is a little too much in my 89 softail, it will be full right up to the filler neck, and just blows the extra out the breather. I put 2-3/4 quarts in. It has worked for me for 115,000 miles.

as dan said, gotta watch filling it totally up if you didnt have up to temp when you drained oil, it will be overfull and blow it out breather.you can find manuals on ebay for around $30 or less
