We've all been to that magic place, experienced things on our bikes you can't seem to capture with even a digital camera.  I was thinking about mounting a HD video camera to my helmet to capture some of my riding this summer, has anybody done this?  Suggestions about if there are any arm length controls where you can keep your hands close to the bars yet activate a camera on your helmet.  Went to Glacier last year and was awstruck, would think by capturing it on HD video would be fantastic.  Suggestions on the camera set up, thanks.

sfarson posted a great video of a ride he took.  Posted still pics taken from the video and the web address for the camera.

Looks like you get all you need right out of the box to take the pics you want.

He also sent me an email with the pros and cons of the camera that I could pass along to you if you wish.

...exactly what I'd like to do, record various trips (and an entire summer of riding, both action (helmet mounted) and of friends and fellow riders at stops).  Would like however to fill the screen on an HD TV though, not just a computer screen, would the vholder do the trick or would I have to pursue a more HD quality camera???  Thanks for the responses.

The vholder is only 640x480, it will look like crap on a big screen unless you stand 100 feet away! I may be wrong, but I think recording in anything close to HD will take some pretty fair equipment. Then recording any length of time may be an issue, as the higher resolution takes up more memeory.  I have been thinking about it too and would like near HD quality also.
Google HD video camera and run with it.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Apparently, Kodak has one. Try this web page:

There are 1080P cameras avaiable, just depends on how much money you want to spend. I looked at one, forget the model, but it recorded on a 3" CD and at HD at 60 frames per second it would record 15 minutes. Something you realy need to consider as it would really take the fun out of the ride you you have to stop every 15 minuts and chance disks, or memory cards.

If there is a sky diver outfit in your area check them out. They have been doing helmet mounted cameras for quite a few years. Could pick up a few tricks (what to do and what NOT to do) as well as the best or worse cameras to use.

Let us know what you decide.
