Renting in Australia

  My friends nephew is going to Aus. and looking to rent a bike ( Jap-cheaper?) to go from Sydney to Byron Bay etc. Any tips would be appreciated- age restriction for cc's, rental places, costs, web-sites etc.
  He asked me but I haven't rode down under for 10 years. All I know is those round-a-boughts were an accident waiting to happen until I got the hang of them. Actually move traffic real well.

Got to Google.com and search on something like "motorcycle hire australia".  Just did so and a bunch motorcycle rental places in Australia showed up.
