Primary/Trans Fluid

While on a day trip with a group of friends, one's 883 lost its primary/trans drain plug. Collectively we were able to come up with a bolt to fit, and some 20w-50 to fill. We got the 40 miles home and I drained her primary/trans and bought a new drain plug.

Should I just fill it with the proper fluid, or open the case and clean the clutch pack first? I want to do a good job, but don't want to be too anal about it. :oil:
