any way to check cps with a multimeter???

My 97 eglide is flashing code 56 which is cam and crank timing off or weak/no crank postion sensor signal. I visually inspected both ends of the cps/lead. Looks like new. Hate to drop 100 bones if there is any way to check it first without the break-out box. Thanks.
