04 1200 transmission

Got a 04 1200 that has no 4 th gear. Its like nuetral. Have all other gears. Anyone have any leafs as to what to look for ?

As you can see in the drawing below your problem is severe!

It has to do either
- with damaged claws on the (shiftable) first gear (see left gear "1" in the red circle and pics in JohnK's post above!)
or
- with a damaged shifter fork for this gear
or
- with a damaged 4th gearset = the outer right gears "4" in the drawing (respectively outer left in the pics of JohnK)

Most likely the shifting claws on the first gear are the weakest links and JohnK is right!  :emsad:

First two pics are trapdoor EVO , but the rubbermounts have the same weakness, the third pic is from an '04 bike.

Would have been better off with an '03 as '04+ you'll need to split the case to get to the gearbox.

You can start by pulling the engine out of the frame.

what happened,shift without clutch, banging gears to hard?  how many miles? .thanks
