My wife has a 2012 Streetglide.  Stock unit is satellite  ready , are any modifications needed to hook it up?

nope.. just plug it in and activate it.

I think you are going to find the music will not be as loud using XM . I don't know why but that's just how it works.

On my HD XM radio module fitted there is a lot less bass than playing through media or FM.

while on the xm topic   is there a special program for bikes that you don't have to pay for the whole year just for the summer months. (for us that don't ride in the snow)

I talked with them about this subject and they said they could suspend it for 3 months each year as long as we called them in advance.
