What all is done at the 1000 mile service, is it simply an oil/filter change or is there more involved than that? About what does it cost, providing I stay with the factory oil?

your owners manual should list all the service points. Mostly checking fastenres, bolts, belt tension, lubing a few spots including cables. If you're willing, you can do it. Get yourself a service manual and it will pay for itself in short order.

Also, if you call your dealer they should be able to tell exactly how much it costs.
