Hey everyone,
I adjusted the clutch on my 2012 FLHTK a couple weeks ago per SM instructions and just didnt like the adjustment. Today I decided to re adjust using a procedure on this forum which suggests to loosen the slack adjuster (cable) then turn the clutch adj screw in approx 2 turns and working the lever to seat the ball ramp and then adjust 1 turn out from "0" lash and 1/8th on cable/lever play (in a nut shell) I finished up, rode to work about 40 miles and liked the adjustment. Everything works good. When I got to work and put the bike in neutral, I hear a "clatter". . Pull in the clutch and it goes away. Only hear it in neutral with clutch lever released. No problems shifting and clutch works fine just dont know what the "clatter" could be. It did not do it before adjusting the clutch today. :wtf: Any suggestions?

14,000 miles on the bike. Never made a noise til I readjusted it today.

Clutch out in neutral and has noise , pull in clutch lever and it goes away is classic syptom of a IPB failure . You also said you ran the adjuster screw in 2 turns past zero lash then squeezed the clutch lever several times . That had to put the throw out bearing under stress . Just my guesses

Here is the method I used..It was more like 1 turn past "0" sorry for the confusion..just enough to take up the slack per instructions in post.

That's how I've adjusted mine for years, works perfectly.

The autotensioner needs to kick itself up a notch.. Will go away..

Like I said earlier..Clutch works great..now I have that noise. Guess I will look further into it tomorrow. I'll try re adjusting and see what happens. If the noise is still there, I guess I will be looking at a TOB or IPB.  :banghead:
Max..How do I get it to click up a notch? Is it just coincidence that it happened or should I be looking for another issue?

I just ride the bike.. If you think there is some thing wrong, take it to someone with more experience on the noise..

I seem to remember there is also a bulletin of some trannies having idle rattles due to slop in the tranny but can't find it.

Thanx Max..But the thing I cant figure out is that it was dead quiet before the adjustment...

I am thinking that you are going to be riding like Max said....or you are going to be adjusting it again.

Well, riding home from work last night, started hearing a noise in the primary after 30 miles on the freeway at 70+ mph. Stopped at a light and heard the "clackity" noise, and then it would "clank" from the primary on decel..just one "clank" on every decel just letting off the throttle not pulling in the clutch. Got it home and yanked the primary cover to have a looksee. Everything was in tact, Checked the comp bolt, still torqued. Pulled the tensioner and cleaned it up, nothing but slight grooves where the chain rides. Collapsed the tensioner and reinstalled with new primary oil and clutch adjustment per SM. Finished up this morning and fired it up..no noise. Took it for a 20-30ml ride and "clank" on decell is very minimal (always and a small one on decell, I attributed to the auto tensioner) Brought it home and let it idle in neutral and can still hear a small "clatter" but nothing like it was. It could have been there but never noticed. Still dont know what the issue is/was but seems to be back to "normal".  :nix: Tomorrow, the new lifters and PR"s go in.
