I recently bought a 1986 Harley Sportster 883 and there is no speedometer.  The wire for the speedo is still attached but it doesn't spin.  I am new to riding and wondering what could potentially be wrong and how much it would cost to repair.

If the cable doesn't spin with the front wheel, then the speedo drive gear maybe broken, or the cable itself.  Last time I checked, cables were $35, and drive gears were $50, but it's been a while.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?
