Even though I could only attend Sunday’s Sam Bass BACA chapter’s adoption up in Round Rock - there was a huge benefit Saturday also in Round Rock for the family of our recently deceased BACA State Vice President Jester. Not counting a percentage of the bar tab (not tabulated at the time on Sunday) over $6000 was raised for Ms Jilly and her sons. KUDOS to the entire M/C community in the Austin area for coming out and standing tall!
Even our little Porkchop’s Dad (aka Applesauce) from Tomball brought 20 or 30 of his Scion Car Club (The Psychotics) to join in the festivities.

Many of our Brazos Valley brothers and sisters were already up there having spent the night locally after the benefit on Saturday. I met brother ‘Jumpstart’ on the west side of Brenham and we rode on up for the 12pm meeting near the adoption site. Since I don’t care much for riding on 290 we blasted pretty fast to make short work of the trip. With a belly full of a snack from Taco Bell about 40 or 50 bikes rolled out in formation and ‘woke up’ our little Miss ‘Phuzion’s’ neighbors as we came to visit and welcome her into our family. With most all of the neighbors in a 5 or 10 house radius lQQking on in curiosity we had quite a party in Phuzion’s driveway - presenting her with our BACA plaque of recognition and thanks for allowing us into her family, our 5′ x 7′ BACA blanket, and our traditional teddy bear (after we pass it all around and ‘fill it up’ with hugs). Sam Bass also came up with a new wrinkle and also presented Phuzion with a small ‘treasure chest’ filled with 3 inch sticky notes of encouragement from each of us. 14 year old Miss ‘Phuzion’ (quite a sharp and eloquent teen) also was allowed to choose any bike (with a backrest in place) for a short escorted kid ride. She returned grinning from ear to ear and happily announced that when she turns 16 she won’t be seeking a car but wants a BIKE(HEH).
We actually encountered this family in a bit of a ‘reverse fashion’ from our normal BACA scheme - we generally hear of these cases from CPS or DA’s office - then adopt the child and keep them in our family until court and accompany them to testify. Sam Bass chapter actually only heard of this kid the DAY she was already going to court - Sam Bass got the word at NOON - and by 1:30 PM had members present in the courtroom! (that’s FAST service folks!). Sadly the initial trial concluded with a hung jury / mistrial so Miss Phuzion gets to go through all this all over again. But THIS time she has BACA with her for the entire journey.
A couple of our members mapped out a nice back road return route and we enjoyed some schweet twisties on our way back - coming out in Somerville for monstrous burgers at the Country Inn. All in all another great day’s work and “one more starfish saved”.
