can any one recommend a good shop that can do pan valve seats. 1950 heads. I think the seats are cast in. I have seen them come out after being replaced.

Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

I find that expansion coefficient thing interesting. Always wondered why the cast them in.

I had gotten away with the heads machined for new press in seats in the past. At least never heard back from the owners there was a problem. But I think it's hit and miss as far as the heads retaining the seats.

I am running a set of heads on my 1964 DuoGlide that have the steel seats pressed in. Only have about 5,000 miles on them. So far so good. I cannot remember who did them.
I also have a pair that Head Hog did the deal where the old seats are machined out and built back up with the bronze alloy like the originals. That process is not cheap and be prepared for a wait of 6 months or more.

Perry has done many also.

Yup. Perry has found the right material to make his valve seats from. It matches the coefficient of expansion of the head. I've put 120k+ miles on heads from Perry and the valve seats haven't fallen out.

I'd say that's a good result then.
