Battery draining

Hey everyone, have a problem with a 2005 xl1200c thing is when i go to hit the starter button it will drain the battery to 3 volts as soon as you let go of the button battery goes back to 11.78 volts, is this not a lot for the starter to be takeing to turn this over, and what might be the problem? thanx all and ride safe

original battery? if it is it's probably laying down on you and could stand to be replaced.

Brand new battery,did a couple voltage tests and it's looking like it might be the solinoid,not sure but will keep trying to figure it out

Have the battery load tested. Sometimes even new batteries are bad.
