Gents, I may be looking at a '77 SG that's for sale. It's pretty clean and looks to be 95% original. One question is did '77 SG's have a single or dual front disc brake? This one has a dual that looks like the '77 Low Rider set up. Is a dual disc correct on a '77 SG? Some pics I've found on the net shows dual and some shows single. I wonder if someone swapped a Low Rider front end on it or just a later model dual disc on it. Also was '77 when HD moved from the 74 to the 80" motor? Is there something in the ID number that would tell me what size motor is has. Anything else I shoudl be looking for or ask about on a '77 model?

Thanks
-Harvey

1977 Super Glide had a single front disc. Also was a 74 inch motor.

Late 1976 and 1977 had issues with the 3rd gear when HD went from lose bearings to a caged bearing. That bearing though has probably bit he dust by now, and been taken care of.

I bought my 1979 low rider in October of 1979. At that time the "new" 1980 was also on the floor with an 80 ci motor set up to run on no lead fuel. The '79 listed for $4,700 and the '80 was tagged at $5,600. I got mine at a discount ( imagine that today) for $4,300. Still ride it but have 2 newer bikes in the stable. Regards, Frank

Got any more detail on that, and are you sure L76-E77? I have an E77 and it's got loose bearings. My parts book seems to imply that they switched in Late 77.

Oh and 1340cc (80ci) came out in '78 in the baggers.

My error guys, it's a 78. Still a single front disc?

Wonder if this a case where we're both right?

If I am reading this correct, from late '76 through early '77, could be either? Guess you don't really know without taking it apart and looking? Classis case of HD making a running change and using up old stock and mixing parts methinks.

Hell my wife's whole '85 FXEF is an example of that.  Well, ok, not the whole bike, just the parts that are left that came from the MoCo.

This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickock.
