NOS means different things to different people anymore...No Honesty among Theives.
If you really did have a New Old Stock [OE] shaft...It would Not have Stripped...Never seen it, unless you really Gorilla'd it!

just what I thought, you would need a 1/2 breaker bar with a piece of pipe on the end to strip the threads on a good one, although NOS from AMF is questionable for hardness also.....

nibroc

morris mag would be the very best IMHO---if they have 'em

No...I have never seen an Ironhead shaft hurt that way...AMF or earlier...I have seen more than my share...
Look anywhere anymore and see how the NOS thing is Abused!!
I have seen more ~ Parts described as NOS than the Real Thing by Far!!!!

farmall

"New Old Stock" does NOT mean "Harley Davidson New Old Stock"!

Words have very specific meanings and sellers know this. IDGAF how long a part sat on a shelf, I want to know its origin.

have broken several oem Harley kicker shafts in my time

Burnout

I think a guy on the XL forum has them made, bullet proof.
They don't call me Ironhead Rick just because I'm "hard headed"

Course I gots friends that can wreck a Bowling ball with a Sponge...

Burnout

I have seen them twisted and bent. Not a far reach to bust one. The guy on the xl forum has them made and treated for use in big bore strokers.

I'll just say I'm Impressed...Are you sure we're talkin real Harley Shafts??? ~ don't count...

Burnout

I have not bent one personally, but have had more than 2 come to me that way.

The shaft usually bends when it twists so the pedal is in a goofy position and the shaft hangs up in the bushing. (if the bushing is not worn out)

I twisted a stocker.
have longer kick petal, came down with a purpose.
(prior to comp releases)
it tried to back fire and I "won"
back then sifton (I think) made a strong one.
next thing i broke was kicker case cover.
welded up a major support for new one.
now just my leg bends/breaks..

its always the weakest link

Quoting Siri now..."Well I Never"
If you can find the Sifton stuff...it was the only thing to come close to OE..may have been Better...can't say that.
My Kick-only bikes always start best when just Pushing it thru...jumping Up and Down was just a way to Hurt Me!!!

garyajaz

LOL  :SM:
jumping Up and Down was just a way to Hurt Me!!!  "great quote.

until I installed releases I could stand on starter  with all my (then) 250 pounds and just stand there.
no pushing through on that beastie.
but yes, plenty of hurt kicking over the beast for all those years.
now I old and skinny (and smarter) comp releases is only way to go.
well, that or change EVERYTHING over to elect foot.
