I picked up a '17 SGS last week, has about 600 miles on it. I did all my fluids a couple days ago since the wife and I are doing a 1,700 mile round trip next weekend. I've noticed this noise intermittently pretty much since day one. I was hoping putting Spectro in the primary might quiet it down but it's still there. Does this sound like the compensator? I'm gonna try and get it into the dealer in a couple days and have them glance it over.

Hmm, I don't see the video posted. I'm using Tapatalk and it seemed like it uploaded fine..

There's something wrong with your 1st vid, the 2nd is OK.

I haven't seen an M8 up close yet but it could easily be the compensator.

Sounds too high in pitch for the comp. Might be or could be the chain tensioner too but the tensioner and comp have about the same pitch. More of a low grade clunk. Could also be chain slap since the tone is about right.  This sounds more like a clack but audio files leave something to be desired. Keep us posted on what the cause was.

Sounds like a bad link in the Primary chain

Yeah, I've wondered if it would be some chain slap instead. It's intermittent. I just did 70 miles and stopped to grab some grub and it wasn't doing it at all. I pulled into the restaurant and let it idle for a bit while listening for it and got nothing.

my 17 rgs makes the same noise from the primary only when the engine is cold. When the bike is 1st started & idling its minor & gets louder as the bike sits there while you're getting gear on. When the bike warms up i never hear it.  My dealer says its ok.  Im curious what your dealer thinks about it.

I'm gonna swing by there tomorrow morning. I'll see what they have to say and let y'all know.

Looks like it was chain slap from a loose new chain. They think I haven't been having issue with it in the past couple days since I've been riding it hard since finishing the break in miles and it bumped the chain tensioner up a notch. I feel satisfied with that answer.
