A little oil useage

Fired up my old Shovel yesterday.  She ran great.  I did notice a little vapor from the exhaust and it smelled like oil.  Bike had not been started in some time.  The engine is fine and starts and runs like it always has.  The heads were done 6/7 years ago, but the bike hasn't been ridden much in the last 10 years.  Thought it might be valve seals and wondered if using an additive in the oil might soften the seals.  Ideas !!

maybe just a head gasket leak into the chamber?
but to answer the questchin, I've not tried that, though it works great in powersteering boxes w leaky seals.
