Converter in the head pipe still or in the mufflers  :nix: And can it be removed like the older bikes?

On the touring models it's that long bulge in the head pipe right in front of the right side muffler. Evidently it is much better flowing than the earlier converters as in Durwoods very informative testing of the new M8's, going to no cat head pipes with just better flowing A/C and mufflers, there was virtually no gain in performance. From our own experience riding in several 90°+ days the new converter doesn't kick out nearly as much heat as the older ones did either.

86, you can get it out of there through the collector without cutting the pipe.

As stated, no performance gains, but the sound of the exhaust note was improved.

Buglet

Whats the best way to cut it out?

So I gather if you go to a build like the order of a stage 4 or what ever making 120+ both tq and hp you may or will see a difference?

Although the cat is evidently not so restrictive enough to make a difference in very mild performance enhancements, like mufflers and A/C, I'm sure you would want to remove it or replace with no cat head pipes when doing a full on performance build. Hopefully you are following Durwoods postings "Milwaukee Eight testing" as it is extremely informative.

HD/Wrench

We just sent a header for the M8 out for coating. If it drops the temp enough in texas summer heat and a good tune with a bolt in cam it may be a nice way for many to keep warranty in tact as we know how they are handling the issues.   Speaking of warranty ,..I have one coming in end of this week for oiling issue. Customer had installed a ex system and a tuner. HD gave him his walking papers . no power train warranty .  Its going to get very interesting from here on out  :dgust:

As far as a cat goes you can make power its the want it louder deal and less heat. If you can rid the heat from the pipe , or better yet move it back further like the muffler and still make decent power then warranty wise may work out very well for some middle ground .
