M-8 hydrolic lifters

New 17 Road Glide Ultra.  I did a 5000 mile service before I left for a 23 day trip out to California (from Debary, Fl) .  Coming back, in Wyoming, I started the bike in the morning and the clatter from the motor was loud and took about a minute to go away.  Happened again the next day.  I stopped at a HD dealer and talked to the svc dept. and they told me that as long as the noise goes away it's ok.  Repair won't be covered under warranty. So I drove it home that way.  It takes a little longer to go away now.  Am I hurting the engine?

That covers how HD deals with it- and they can warranty one or two at a time for customer satisfaction, the way I read it.
