Well, with the sale of my beloved 2004 Road King last Fall, I found myself purchasing a gently used and low mileage 2013 Red and White Deluxe (photos attached).  The engine is a stock 103B with a Stage 1 update, Race Tuner and a set of Reinhart true duals.  I like the base cams but am looking to upgrade for something with a little more low end and mid-range.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I  have  andrews  48 in a  ultra  low and  mid range  is nice , but  with  a  lighter  bike  you  can  go a little  bit  bigger  I think .

IMO the best thing you could do for a start is get rid of the fishtail mufflers, stock cammed 103's actually have pretty good low end torque out of the box.

A change in gearing  might be a good alternative...or addition.

Andrews 48 and Cycle-Rama CR570-2 have been popular - my buddy has 48 and I have CR570-2. We both are very pleased with them.

I agree with all that was said above. In any event I assume you'll have the bike dyno tuned. That makes anything that you decide to do run at it's best and give you the best results.

As am I with my TTS 100 cams.
No one else put you on the road you're on. It's your own asphalt.

I just poked a set of TTS 100s in a buddies bike, & changed the trans pulley & belt ( he pulls a tent trailer around the country), He already had the TTS tuner, Rinehart slip-ons, added an S&S Stealth AC. He's very happy.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

Thanks for all of the responses.  A new set of higher flow pipes is on order and after that the Deluxe will be Dyno tuned.  Hopefully that will give me the extra low and midrange I was looking for.

If this were an A motor I'd be with the rest on the 570-2, a48, wood 222 variety. In a B motor they won't feel the same.

If you want it to feel like it's spooling up fast get a 30t trans pulley and a set of s&s 583 cams. It'll need a good tune as it'll put you right at/around 200ccp. It'll be snappy, good low speed manners, excellent partial throttle/roll-on response, and pull hard WOT till about 4500-4800. The exhaust duration will keep it running cooler. 2-1 exhaust is ideal.

If you Don't have good fuel in your area or if your loading her up with extra weight, then one of the others mentioned with a later intake close would probably be better. Pulley swap still would be fine and recommended. Never tried a tts-100 but hearsay tells me it's between the 583 and the other recommended choices, so that might be fun to try in the B motor.

2014 and up stock cam was better than the earlier years.

Good Afternoon,

Well, I finally received my new mufflers and am running into a mounting issue.  The mounts on the pipes are spaced 3.75 on center and the it looks like the stock muffler mount holes are 2.5" on center.  The prior owner has put on the Reinhart pipes and I'm wondering of the mount with the narrower spaced holes was specifically for the Reinhart pipes or if is is the stock mount.  Can anyone confirm the hole spacing on the stock muffler mount bracket for me?  2013 Softail Deluxe if that makes a difference, I don't think it should but just in case.

Thanks in advance.

Please disregard the prior post, the stock H-D spacing is 3.75" (checked by looking at an old muffler I had laying around.  The shorter bracket is proprietary to Reinhart, so off the the HD dealer to order a pair of the stock muffler support brackets.

Nine years ago I told my Indy I wanted to build my 2008 FXSTC into a 103ci stump puller.  We did a Zippers Sleeper kit with Red Shift 525 cams (I had already changed to a T-Max ECU).

My main goal was to reduce the amount of shifting I had to do during my 25 mile commute every day.  With speed limits from 20 to 55 along the way and Northern Virginia commuter traffic doing zero to 70, it seemed like all I did was shift up and down.  Up and down!

The build and cams by my estimate cut my shifting almost in half.  Still riding that build and see no reason to change it.

Thanks for all of the earlier replies about the cam choice.  I haven't been able to post lately with the results of the  exhaust pipe change due to health concerns that my wife encountered.  A new problem has cropped up involving My Deluxe's BCM.  The bike is a 2013 Deluxe, stock 103 except for a Stage 1 flash and new mufflers.  Took the bike out for a ride yesterday and the red warning light came on and stayed on the entire ride.

There was nothing mechanical wrong, the bike rode great, the only thing I noticed was that the passing lamps would not turn on.  Running the DIAG on the bike indicated a problem with the BCM.  All other systems showed no error codes, but the BCM threw 4 error codes, B2108, B2112, B2131 and B2161.

2108-  L4 output short

2112- Acc output shorted high

2131- High beam open output

2161- Brake lamp output open

All of the error codes have been cleared except B2108 which refers back to Part # 69993-11A which is the BCM.  My guess is that the BCM somehow took a hit and will need to be replaced.  I don't have a problem replacing the BCM at about $135.00, but does anyone know if the BCM needs to be flashed or otherwise updated at a Harley dealership?  Lastly, is the error the cause of the passing lamps not working?

The last ride I took on the bike was weeks ago and everything was working,  Yesterday was the first ride in about  4 weeks and the passing lamp price popped up along with the other codes that have cleared.

One last thing, I did get around to replacing the old exhaust pipes the bike had with a much less restrictive muffler set and the bike runs like never before, no cam or other changes needed.

Thanks,
