The engine is out of my 90 Ultra and all apart. What gaskets should I be using for assembly? I'm inclined to use Cometics for the base and head gaskets. Should I just buy a whole engine kit from them? OEM gaskets for everything but base & head? The engine had James gaskets in it and they leaked so I'm kind of prejudiced against them.

It's probably getting an Andrews EV27 cam but I haven't bought it yet so cam and lifter recommendations would be welcome too. The bike is light for an Ultra, often ridden fairly hard and almost always solo.

The top end is coming from an engine that lost the cam because a  stock Harley B lifter lost it's needle bearings at 6000 miles so I'm sort of prejudiced against them too, but maybe stuff just happens?

Help me out here guys, this is my first rodeo.

I use cometic sets, S&S lifters and have never had problems.

Cometic on the gaskets. If you're putting in a new cam go with new lifters, such as S&S or comp cams. You won't find B lifters anymore. HD switched to the C lifters, which are junk. B lifters were the good ones. Also consider an S&S steel breather gear to replace the stock plastic one.

Good call staying away from James gaskets.

No Cents

I use Cometic base and cylinder head gaskets.
For every other gasket I use the factory gaskets.

James metal base gaskets, cometic head gaskets, oem hd others fit better for evo's imo.
