A member here, Calgary56, got about 175,000 miles out of his stock motor I believe. He did a rebuild and is coming on 300,000, and may have passed it by now.
I just looked at his profile, and he has passed 300,000.
Pretty sure Calgary got a touch over 100,000 miles on his first engine, then about 100,000 on the second, and now he is running a S&S 111.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I was kind of hoping to hear from more high mileage guys. Still wondering how much life you get out of soft forged piston compared to stock brittle cast ones......Thanks

stock, "brittle" cast ones last almost forever

soft (your word) forged pistons can also last almost forever

you must be bored

I'm at 73k on a 09SG with just an Andrews cam and adjustable pushrods...everything else in the motor is still original and bike runs fine with routine maintenance ...no plans on a rebuild at the moment...if ain't broke I don't fix it

Just a few high mileage guys with a work inbetween builds.Any one else?

I did my build top end at 84000 Miles ( American Bike), . went to 95 . my Crank was only 0.0031 so no gear cams but spins good . Heads Done compression releases, 1.9 intake and 1.585 Exh, by JPrecision out of Quebec Their stage 2b. 9.8:1 Static 9.2:1 Corrected 185 CCP Andrews 57 cams Power vision tuner with wide band O2 sencors .
Not an extream build for a 03 bagger but I don't have to be too worried about detonation .

F.K.
Now I have to do my shifter pawl arm before it lets me down on the hwy someplace lol . I have a small leak in my main inner primary seal. so fix it all at one time .

F.K.

Not a rebuild, but just turned 157,000 miles on my 02 Ultra, only thing done to motor was install gear drive cams at 58,000 miles and 4 years ago replaced rocker box gaskets as they were starting to leak. Just replaced original clutch cable 3 weeks ago as eyelet broke on it. Blackstone Laboratories did an oil analysis at 144,000 miles for me and their report came back excellent on motor. Overall they are a pretty reliable motor period.

05 RK Carbed bought new, left mostly stock.
Started using oil at 197K; measured .002" wear on original pistons, same .002" wear on bore.  Went back with +.005" HHK (stock) pistons, why not?
Original Tensioners went 95k, replacements lasted 40k, Hybrid setup lasted 90k.
Replaced heads with 2008 take-offs at 225k
Currently at 232k with original .006" TIR crank. Runs stronger and quieter than it ever has since new.
Original; Crank, compensator, primary chain, clutch, transmission, starter.
With speed comes stability.

How many many miles between rebuilds on your twin cams?
What broke 1st?
Do forged pistons have considerable less life than stock?
Thanks

119,800 trouble free hard miles through 34 states from 117deg to 19deg on my 09 Ultra, mostly two up heavily loaded. Rebuilt with 107 CP pistons and Woods cams at 119.8k just for the heck of it. I have a 14 Limited with 27,000 on it so I don't get to ride the 09 as much as I used to, but still love it and hope to ride another 120k on this set of pistons.

85K on my 03 Road King before I got bored with the 95" in it, plus it was just starting to use oil the last year.  Rebuilt to 107".  A lifter went south at 97K after 1 season.  Two years later and I'm only at 102K.  Hope to do a cam swap here shortly and hopefully, will get another 50-70K out of it.

TerryJFT

125K on 2009 FLHTC.  Only engine mod is SE255 cams @ around 75K.  Thought about rebuild (or crate) last winter "for the heck of it"...couldn't decide which route to go and left it alone for now.  Using some oil...I should probably track how much...but I haven't.

Leaning toward S&S 124 next winter.

I would say that thermal dynamics plays a major role in longevity - some people just don't get this . We have all seen this at ralleys or the local ice house - the guy who has been sitting inside for hours and is about 7-8 beers into it and decides he is gonna have a loud pipe contest . fires up that cold engine and takes it straight to the limiter in hopes of impressing his buds . He probley wont get a lot of miles out of that engine .

My Wife and I both have 2005's (T.C.88) My FLHTI Standard went 136,000 miles before it needed freshening up, my Wife's Dyna LowRider currently has 70,000 miles and no issues. We don't beat the hell out of them, and Regular oil changes. Oh.......of course keep and eye on the cam shoes....... replace as needed...................... P.S.  everything is stock, just stage one kits for both.
