Just bought one at Conrads in Joliet, Ill. $130 something with tax for the HD agm one for my 2005 bagger. Checked with the local Interstate dealer & they had one, a sealed agm but it was only like $15 bucs cheaper.

..I got an 03 Flht.,,still original battery..never let me down..how much longer can I expect...bike sits in an unheated garage and I stick the tender 3 or 4 times a winter for a week or so..and allways before initial start up..bike may sit 6 months at a time..can't argue with the original factory battery/charging system..

FYI. The H-D battery 66010-97C is $129.95. If fully charged prior to installation and initial loading will last 5 years.

Be glad you don't need a battery for an electric fork lift. I just ordered a 36V battery..... $3,775, and it will only last 7-9 years

Ultima is making AGM batteries now. I put one on my ol lady's 02 sportster and it seems ok. They're a whole lot cheaper than the HD AGM batteries which seem to have skyrocketed in price. This Sportster/Dyna battery was only about $60 from Jireh Cycles compared to $100 for the HD battery.

I bought a "second" for my Ultra from the factory store, it was $48, it has a burn mark on the cover. That was a year or two ago.
They sell seconds for 1/2 the price of first quality.

DeKa make batteries for many brands, to see if you are buying a DeKa battery, look at the labels for the letters EPM in one of the lower corners.

i looked in the 09 h-d parts cat it's $150- they dropped them down to $130- now at h-d. the local dealer had his pig roast party sat w/ 20 % off so it was $110- out the door . it was the deal  the day  for me . got 8yrs out of my xl batt, but az summer heat and no one to give it a charge took it's  life.i left the 03 battery w/friend to charge over the winter  in wi . but i don't think he did it enough, should of got a couple more yrs out of it. but that's the way it goes. thanks for the input.

JBarrettB... yeah....  5 years... good luck with that. My brand new battery lasted precisely 25 months. No, there's no problem with the bike, charging system, etc. It was on a battery tender every night too. Just the luck of the draw. That one battery sucked.

Was it a proper tender for an AGM battery?

I bought a DEKA battery for my Ultra a few years ago. The terminals were different, required these little spacers to make the wiring hook up right.  It was supposed to be the same as the HD battery.  Close . . . .but not the same in my case.

It is the same internally. I like the extra holes on the top of the terminal to hook up auxiliary wires.

Yes, the addition threaded holes are certainly convenient.  I use them for aux wiring, too.  Just don't like the little stainless steel spacers for the big wires.  I wonder why HD batteries don't have the additional threaded holes in the top.

JBarrettB

Yes RainDodger 5 years, if properly charged prior to installation and loading, that is a very reasonable expectation for the H-D AGM battery.

About those little spacers.
I bought some metric screws and made studs out of them.
Put the stud in the terminal and just slide the spacer on. No fumbling with the spacer, screw, bolt and washer. All you have to do is not drop the nut or washer.
