Oil pressure gauge question

 I have a 1989 Tourglide that I'm rebuilding and I need a new oil pressure gauge. The fairing has a hole so I have to put a gauge in it.  What I need is a 0 to 60 psi gauge, most are 0 to 100
but, this is a Harley. The problem is, I can find a 0 to 60  direct feed gauge but, I can't find a 0 to 60 electric gauge like the original harley gauge.

Will the direct feed gauge work if the feed line is 5 feet long ?

Does anyone know of a manufacturer of 0 to 60 electric sending unit type gauge ?

I had an 1985 that used the direct feed, always was a P.I.A. with the leaks.  I put an electrical gauge from the 90's era and it worked fine.  Why 60 PSI  the stock electrical ones are 40 PSI and I don't think you'll have to worry about your evo going over that.   Look on e-bay for take offs or I've seen them at swap meets.

While I have to say that I like to have gauges, because Harley uses such a low pressure oiling system, an oil pressure gauge wont tell you very much.  By that I mean that when the bike is hot and idling, the gauge may actually fall to zero while your actual pressure will be fine.  When the engine is cold, it'll read high and pressure will fall off as the engine heats up.  Even though I dislike idiot lights, Harley's oiling system is best suited to the light.  When pressure reaches zero, the light will come on and the lifters will such a clatter you wont have to worry about looking at the gauge.  I know this isn't very helpful advice, but perhaps you might want to put an outside temp gauge or a clock to fill the hole?

  The original gauge was the 0 to 40 psi as mentioned above, unfortunatly it is faded and the black bezel paint is flaking off.  I'm not prissy but I'm having all the body panels painted
and the original gauge will stick out like a sore thumb.  The stock gauge was made for Harley by VDO but, it doesn't look like they are making them any more.  The '89 didn't have an oil pressure light.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that all FLH's came with oil pressure light on the dash.  The 1988 Tourglide and 1988 Sportglide have identical dash layouts.  It's one of the lights between the speedo and tach.  Are you sure it isn't there?  Even my buddy's 1991 FLHT has approximately the same dash with the oil pressure light in the same spot.

That's funny JohnS says he may be mistaken... Yeah right, when was the last time that happened?  Just pulling your leg.... we all make errors but I never seen JohnS wrong yet!   That's like saying Samuel was wrong......
Anyway the idiot light should be in the speedo/tach cluster... red light and might be in line with the blue high beams.  I think the police models had a green light for something.....

 I'll check it out, it may not be connected. There is alot of wireing modifications on my bike, most done with side cutters.  I'm currently trying to get the cruise
control to work...argh


On a side note,  Is there anywhere on the web that may have wireing diagrams in color or clear enough to read ?    The Harley service manual diagrams are so small, even with a magnifier its hard to read.
