If Harley wasn't bleeding from the vrod project they'd be O.K. all you have to do is check out the post on this site to see where the intersest is. It ain't v rods.  If I wanted a BMW I'd buy one!!!!!!!

:gob:  they certainly aren't the success HD thought they would be. I know a few people who have them but most owners in Europe are women

Molly

When I was trading in recently I was told I'd get a much better price off a new V-Rod. The dealer said they had more margin in them so could offer better deals.

I don't think there are many posts in the VRod section because they are out riding instead of being on the internet trying to figure out why their bike is broke  :hyst: :hyst:

for the record, I've never even sat on one, not my cup o tea but I think they are well built

They are fun to ride, I have ridden a few...but I think the market for them is a bit limited. Basically guys in the HD crowd who can afford a second bike or guys in the HD crowd who want to step out and be a little different. I would not give up my current ride for it, but would love to have one in the garage. Also, the full bore customs some guys do with them are pretty wild.

The posts here arent indicative of popularity.  There are some very large sites dedicated to VRods (1130cc.com), so not much value here for VRodders.

And, they do sell pretty well.  Just not to us old guys.

June2017

I knew from the day they revealed them that they would be a flop.

crazy joe

I've ridden HD's for 30 years so when I got a chance to test ride a VRod I jump on it
MAN that bike was fast and smooth and surprisingly comfortable

My nephew (30 yrs old) has a VRod. He loves it. I've ridden it. It would be a good second bike.

:hyst:     http://www.1130cc.com <check it out....they tend to stick to themselves....not with the air heads as they call us.

ThumperDeuce

I sat on one before I decided on my Deuce, it seemed a little small.  I am not a big fan of the look of a radiator on a motorcycle.  That being said I would still like to have one for a second bike.  I was looking at one the other day and came to the realization that the assembly that looks like cylinders are actually the heads, and that the cylinders are in the engine case.  Those heads must be over a foot tall.  After I thought about it a little it made sense as you have to put all the overhead cam stuff somewhere above the cylinders.  I just never thought about it much before.
Idiots are fun, no wonder every village wants one.

Moosedeuce

I heard a dealer say he wished he could get more nightrods, they were selling pretty fast.

tdrglide

I road one. I liked the motor. Liked the way you can wind up the rpms. Smooth and fast. Too bad they can't cram that motor into more of a sportster looking frame and forks. If they could, I'd buy one.

DblackmanC

You know...I have no problem with the motor Or the water cooling but it is so croch rocky looking (everything we were taught to hate) that I'd have a hard time owning one now. Ok for the new buyer but for me put it in a Dyna or Road Glide so i can sit normal and I would be the first to get one!!!

V-Rods are nice if you like that sort of thing. They're certainly not for ordinary Harley-Davidson riders. They are extremely well-bult but I'd never buy one.

panhead_dan

Harley HAS to sell Vrods.

According to the EPA, the current lump won't meet the upcomming criteria. I'm not saying they can't sell the air cooled motors, just that they HAVE to sell some compliant motors. I don't know the specific percentages but it is a real deal. HD has to move vrods and thats the conundrum.

Now check this out. HD stocks are in the "Potty mouth"ter. Sales are slow. They gotta move vrods. These are facts.

What would you do?

3 months before I bought Gracie (October of 2000) of our riding buds bought a brand new 2001 FLHR for around $20,500..................3 months later I bought the same bike (except color) to my door for $16,275.00

Freedom HD sold around 50 bikes in 2 or 3 days like that............

They are interesting bikes. I would like to see what Buell would do with one. H-D keeps wanting to make a Sport/touring bike out of them. I'd like to see a cafe racer style, rear-set footpegs, clip-on bars.

Here are some pics of my brothers.  I was never a big fan of them till I saw what he did with his.

Sonny S.

y'all better like that motor.....gonna see it in a dresser some day

Jim B.

If HD modified the V-rod engine to meed the demands of a long-range touring bike, I'd buy it in an instant.

neale

I like 'em, a few people that I know have them and I can assure you that they will take a beating and keep on going. I also believe they will slot a V-Rod into a touring frame in the not to distant future. Check out Todd's harley pix to see his variations on them in his photo section....very nice.

panhead_dan

That seems to me to be the best plan; a new touring bike using a variation of the vrod engine. HD has a lot of very smart folks working upstairs. They may have an idea we haven't thought of. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if they roll out something totally new and different this year or next year. They really do HAVE to.
Prepare yourselves to be blown away!

Reddog74usa

Being an old Norton fan. I'm glad to see H-D offering something other than the Norm. Sticking to a old platform is a big part of what killed Norton. I have ridden a few V-Rods and really like em. Seems like there made to "Ride it like ya stole it" and have great lines. They did a awsome job designing the radiator so as to look like it's part of the bike unlike the Triumph Rocket III which to me looks like something they pulled out of a car and bolted it on. If I get a real good deal on a V-Rod I'm buyin it.
RIDE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT

vern

oh yea the v-rod is well built like Hondas and BMWs but harley blew it on the v-rod, not enough cubis inches, ugly rad, and designed by germans what were they thinking?
