Does anyone have any info on the RevTech 88 inch Evo replacement engine? I've got an old 85 FLHT that has a bit over 73K on the clock. I'm the third owner, and the guy I bought the bike from told me he never did anything to it but regular maint at correct intervals. I haven't made any changes to the ol' scoot other than a new clutch and brakes and tires and the normal maintenance. Long story shortened, last time I rode it in from work, coughed a few times, missed a few times, ran good for a 1/2 mile again and when I pulled into the drive at home looked down as I reached to turn it off and had blue smoke spewing out the rubber grommet on the left front of the primary. Pretty sure I cooked the charging system. Planned on doing a rebuild this winter anyway. Talked with one of my prefered local indys and after a new charging system (38 amp) and carb and head work and cam change came to about $2400. without the new true duals I want. I have found the 88 Evo w/carb and aircleaner on a couple of eBay's sites for around $3100. 3 yr 30K warranty. Seems to be a far better option than a Harley factory re-man of mine (6 mo warranty), or a top only of mine w/cam change and no more cubes. I'm sure someone on the site has or knows someone that has used this set up. Also wondering if my old stock 5 spd would be ok with the 88? I seldom crank it too hard on the bottom and ride two up most of the time. Somebody learn me something on this set up. Later, Mike.

Did an Ultima 113" Upgrade to my 87 Heritage last spring and after about 6K miles, am very pleased. At the time the engine was $3500 delivered for an 80" up to a 127". Replaced the whole drivetrain, including a 6 speed for less than $5K (after selling the existing drivetrain parts).

Bike runs like new, actually a whole lot better than new! <G>

If it don`t scare you, It ain`t fast enough.

I agree with Speed Limit. Rev tech is not an up grade Korean made. If your thinking about a crate engine the Ultima'a are a great bang for the buck and USA made. You can get them for right around the price you stated the Rev Tech is going for. I had one and really liked it. Good quality, ran very good and super smooth.

Why would you buy a Korean Revtech for 3600 when you can get a USA made Ultima 80 to 127 cu in to your door for 3400?  :wtf: just don't make sense to me is all.

That '85 motor is a solid foundation for a big bore kit. [I know because I have one]
RevTech is a recipe for disaster. Shop around a little more before you jump into the fire.

I have a 100" Rev-Tech in my chop. Runs very strong, over six yrs. old and absolutly NO problems.

:up:Thanks for the information and feed back. I'm still looking around. Not sure still if I will have old 85 blown apart and do a big bore or go with a crate motor. Kinda interested in the "Demons cycle" 114 inch. And, I have a bit of concern as to whether the old 85's trans is up to a lot of new cubes and torque. I'm not much for all out ball busting take offs but I am one to twist the wick a bit now and then after I'm rolling. And I do ride a lot 2 up too. Anyway, keep the comments and info rolling in. Later gang, Mike.

Your trans should be fine if you not a hole shot junkie

You might want to look at upgrading the clutch if you are going for a bigger torquey motor.

and for another FWIW..  since its a bagger, you could change out the
flywheels, rods, and pistons and go with an 89 inch stroker kit.

Do whatever you want with heads, cam, stator, & etc.
Keeps same serial number, no boring, and that low down
torque is swa-eet.  :)

We had sold a few Rev Techs back in the day,,they were cheaper than S&S,Zippers and so on..No Ultima around then,,they came back for warranty work..CCI would only pay parts and limited time,,,lost out on disassemble,,dianose,,cleaning...It was a "Potty mouth"ty deal for dealers and customers...I would avoid them!!!
