Hey all-
well..this FLHX being the first twin cam I am tearing into...I was wondering if you have a recommendation for any manuals. I have them for shovels and pans and an evo or two laying around. Now a buddy of mine directed me to the 101 H-D twin cam book. Now I am not looking for something to show me thru tearing the motor apart, just a book that gives direction for everything else. Like at this point I am going to tear it down so i can paint it, maybe some pipes and new wheels. Now as I have said, i have tore down some shovels, pans and a couple sportys. and the general idea is the same, but I know theres a lil more to these newer bikes and I always like having the book to refer to. The small manual that came with tells me general maintenance stuff, but not much more..say..help removing the tanks and working around the fuel pump?
Thanks in adavnce.....

The 101 book will have some nice upgrades to consider but a factory service manual is the first thing I buy with any vehicle.

For any serious work, I ALWAY recommend the factory service manual. The others are good supplements but there is not substitute for the factory manual. I also like the parts manual because it gives diagrams of the parts breakdowns.

Hope this helps.

I've seen that HD now sells a torque reference manual that gives torque readings for all the fasteners used on the bikes. Definitely my next tool purchase. Should save a lot of time looking up info.

I've got two of those 101 books that a customer gave me and about all I can think they may be good for is if you tear the pages out and roll them up nice and put them under your kindling in the woodstove they might make a good fire starter. There is basically no tech info, just mild suggestions on which product to use but basically no set tech info or anything pertinent to what you are working on. No comprimise for the factory SM's. Also if you are getting the service and parts manuals you may as well get the electrical diagnostic manual as well. You'll need it with the new bikes. I think they either over teched themselves or they just figured another avenue to make even more money by breaking down the manuals. They have discovered that more and more people are doing their own work so now instead of one manual you have to buy three. Really sucks IMHO. But money well spent if you plan on doing any work on your bike. Spidey.

Jer, If you go for an after market manual then check out the Clymers. I think they have better info than the Haynes. I have both for several different models and makes and I prefer the Clymer. Basically they are plagerized from an OEM H-D manual but better diagrams and pics as well as better info than the Haynes. Always good to have the H-D manual. Check E-Bay as there is usually a lot of shop manuals for sale there. Spidey.

You can obtain step by step video on engine rebuild from Amazon.com.   Also try e-bay. It's a down load and is resident on your pc. If you dont like Amazon..try e-bay.  Tons of info not supplied with over the counter manuals..trouble codes etc.

Heres a start http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1311&_nkw=harley+davidson+manual&_sacat=See-All-Categories
