One of the things I like about the E3 is the more modern profile but I can't picture that with a WW.  Maybe the thin line WW but I see the white side wall as being a classic style on classic type tyres.  It seems Dunlop wanted a modern profile tire with the advantages of the harder compounds like their other offerings.  Works for me.

Been in the 80's temp wise.  I've felt the little slip on tar snakes in a turn with my 21" front.  Probably would have felt the same with stock.  Just saying my experience is that they might be better, but I can't say how much until I get to 12-14k on them to judge longevity.

Blazing Saddles

Magnumwide:  I see you're running a 21" front so I assume you're on a softail or FXDWG.  I have a 2004 FXSTS
that I want to put a set of E-3s on but there is no 150/80-16 for the rear, only a 160/80.  The 160/80 is supposed to be 6.1" wide which is virtually the same as the 150/80 Metz that I have been running. What rear are you running??

Are there any issues on putting an E3 on the back with a stock tire on the front?  Any handling issues?  I don't need a front tire yet.

I ran mine that way last year, then replaced the front this year.
You only need to be 10% smarter than the thing your working on.

No.  It's common to do that.

As others have stated, I run E3"s on my 07 ultra and have for the last two tire changes. They out handle the 402's hands down. The only issues that i have had is on mountain roads in TN / KY, we came up on some 180degree + turns in the rain, and both times I could not slow the bike down to make the turn. It was like riding on ice. I have not had any troulbe elsewhere in the rain, and attribute the lack of traction to the oil from the trucks that use these roads + the rain. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems in the rain. AS I stated, it's only these two isolated incidents that I think I can explain. Other than this, these are the best tires for Harleys.

You can go to the Dunlop site and get load ratings and size info for both tires.  I know the rear E-3 on my bike has a highre load rating than the stock 402.

Depends on what size E3 you're talking about. As Rags said, go to the Dunlop site and check the load ratings based on tire size.

Bought a set of 03s for my Ultra had them fitted and thought they were very hard and started to crack around the top surface had a look and build date 05 had them replaced with 402 and all is well dealer said don't how that happened maybe we are a bit slower down her in Aussie or the tyres take a while to get here :wtf:

as asked before I am thinking of changing to the elite III's on my 02 Fatboy with the wide tire kit. I am running the 150 Metzlers now on the JP site it says it is supposed to fit a 3.5 inch rim I've been running these for years on a 3 inch rim

it also says on the 160 E 3's it is for a 3.5 inch rims.

the metzler is 6.02 in width
the dunlop  is 6.01 in width

anyone running the 160 dunlops on a 3.0 inch rim on an 02 fatboy are their any fitment problems

Anyone experience "cupping" on an E3 ?? My rear is cupping (13,000 miles). The tread still looks decent.I think it started befor changing out the shocks. They were shot. I know bad shocks can do that to a car tire. Or, is this a cond. stating at high mileage. How many miles are the rest of you getting? I ride 2 up & loaded at all times.

Yes, but I've seen cupping on all tires that I've had over the past 8 years.  For me, it signals that it's time to change tires before going on a trip.  New ones feel so good in comparison.  :teeth:

PkgMan

Cupping, yup!

On my front one with 13,XXX miles on it. Thats funny, approximately the same mileage and yes, I could get more out of it, just the vibration gets annoying.  Replaced the rear this spring and just ordered a new front yesterday

I buy everything I can from Calif. Phil . . . not necessarily for price but because he's a personal friend and as a member of forums, he does the best he can for us while supporting his business.  I think he has a good balance.

I'll 2nd what KenR said about Calif Phil. He's also a personal friend of mine and will do all he can to help you out.

moose

still trying to find out if a 160 /16 e 3 tire will work on a 3 inch rim anyone ?
Moose aka Glenn-

Ed Y

moose,

Just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. The tire may fit on a 3" rim but I'd consider it a definite safety issue. If the tire is designed for a 3.5" rim, too much chance that hard cornering or large bump could pop it off a small width rim.
