The Goldwing with its overhead cams, liquid cooling and 6 cylinders is capable of sustained high speed on the road without overheating. I'm talking 90-95 mph all day, if you want. They are very smooth at those speeds as well. You can do that on a Harley-Davidson I guess, but it won't be much fun.

Not arguing that "Wing is a better high speed cruiser, but I could not complain about my '05 Ultra either. We ran back from Stugis one year and for a couple tanks of gas we averaged 90 MPH, not too bad if you consider we had to slow for traffic a few times, and a small town here and there. We ran well over 100 MPH, and up to 125 for a few spurts. That Ultra just ran smoother tha faster we went. I figure we were flying right along untill some headlights caught up to me, and a gent on a HD bagger went rolling on by!
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I'm not criticizing Harley-Davidson in any way. I have one. I have an Ultra. They are very smooth. That said, I've also owned a 1994 SE Goldwing (1500cc 6 cylinder) and they are smoother than a Harley-Davidson. There are numerous negatives to the Wing, not the least of which is its tendency to fall over at low speed. Mine did that very thing one sunny morning in Barstow California at 1 mph while attempting to park. The result? $450 worth of broken fairing parts.

Nonetheless, they are a great road bike and very smooth.

We hit the ditch last spind at 70 MPH and dragged it out of the ditch and kept on going. If I ever get around to replacing the scratched up parts it may cost as much. I don't think you slide a 'Wing into a ditch at 70 and walk away for under $500!

Yeah, parts for Goldwings are extremely expensive. The "shelters" (plastic covers on each side of the fairings) are a couple hundred each side. There are a couple of places that sell discount parts for Goldwings like the Harley places, but if you buy locally from a Honda dealer, be prepared for a shock.

I sold mine the last time it fell over. I couldn't handle it anymore.
