Bigger motor needs load?

My 113" with TR625 and 2-1 on my 2011 bagger runs great, but I noticed it really only shines with a substantial load applied to the engine.

Unfortunately that requires a very long grade (hill) or 6th gear roll-on stuff, or power settings that create extreme speeds.

It does not feel like a "cam" powerband issue, because under partial load it still runs perfectly civil, powerful and smooth, but when it gets a load applied it feels like it is "happy".

Is this normal for the bigger engines?

Not trying to be a know it all. but you pretty much answered all your own questions. You even mention the fact that you feel where the motor is in it's happy place.

I would say its in the (lack of?)tuning.

There is no reason a big motor with that cam shouldn't feel good in the whole rpm range.

Maybe I am not describing it correct.

It runs perfect and has plenty of power from idle to redline.

But, it never seems to be "working" in normal power settings, as where your garden variety 103" motor is definately exerting some effort to move a 900 lb. bike lets say even at 65mph.

This motor starts to "work" at 100 mph. It does appreciate when I take my girl riding, it seems to increase load and lower the wheel speed.

It almost as if the gearing is now incorrect, although I couldnt imagine a gearset that would affect it? Maybe a DD7 would be the combo?

Honestly, it now reminds me of when I owned my Cummins Ram 2500 truck. It seemed to never be working when I drove it empty, but throw a 8000lb. horse trailer on it and it started to work.

Running a cam with a bunch of exhaust duration?

Or maybe not enough low MAP timing?

Honestly, I am starting to think that the area I am calling "happy" where it gets incredibly strong and wants MORE MORE MORE is actually the open loop area of the TTS MAP (3500+ RPM). Maybe I should try to run this beast in OPEN mode the entire MAP from idle?

It is a somewhat "fat" (977-982) Lambda values map in the normal closed KPA and RPM zones, and that is actually where it feels a bit tame.

I wanted to run closed loop for fuel economy and to reduce the smell of the exhaust.

When it hits those 952 - 850 type Lambda zones, it pulls like a rocket.

What you think Max?

I know very little about TTS.. Others here that understand it way better than I do but if it's running rich and timing is not advanced enough.. you can pick up partial throttle snappiness by cutting fuel and adding timing.

IMHO..........yes!
I ride different bikes with different combination's and each has their "happy place". They all have different personalities and like different RPM's to settle in and run "nice".
Just the nature of the beast. :agree:

Honestly it sounds like you just described the perfect motor, docile when you need it and there when you need it all, I have ran my 114 very little thus far but it takes a very small amount of throttle input to cruise at 60 mph.
If you don't have a sense of humor you probably have no sense at all.
