Way to go.  I have 71,400 miles.  My goal is to reach 100,000 miles.  At 40,000 miles I found out I had cancer and have had a harder time of riding like I used to.  Good Luck!

I'll try to answer everyone...

harleyjt:  I built the engine at 8,800 miles and, at 25,000 had to do it again.  I suspect bad parts but have no way to be sure.  I rebuilt it at 25,000 and it's run like crazy since then with no problems.  Only other problems I've had are a broken throttle shaft which left me stranded on the Long Island Expressway, and the comp nut came loose.  I caught it in time and retorqued it.  Nothing else except 5K oil and filter changes, tire changes, and annual primary and transmission fluid changes.

Quad D:  I expected that question  :hyst: but I'll give you a straight answer.  When the bike was new, I drank the kool-aid and used HD Syn 3 in all three holes.  Got a good price on a case.  Then I ran Mobil 1 15w50 for a few years until wallyworld quit carrying it (where I live), now I'm running Castrol GTX 20w50 dinosaur oil.  Still change it at 5,000 mile intervals and it only rarely needs a bit added between changes, usually if I've been riding at 80+ for long stretches.  Oh, yeah...  I use black filters, not chrome.  I think that's the secret.

katfish:  What year is Gracie?

Dan 'Gracie' is an '01 FLHR (carbed) and a 95 incher since break in (her second engine courtesy of MoCo warranty - gotta LOVE a new motor for a $50 deductible eh?) 2nd motor is also a 95 "since birth"............

That 1st engine went south at 54,000 (cam chain tensioner pads / changed over to gear drive)

I actually burnt up 25,000 miles in her first year then my average dropped for various reasons...........she's still runnin STRONG

I changed my tensioners at 56K miles and they were less than half used up.  Still, I may have to remove the cover and see how the replacements look.

I also had to replace the primary tensioner shoe a few thousand miles back.  It had cracked.

I'm still running the original drive belt.  I wonder when it'll break...

Went to gear drive at 58,000 miles on my 02 dresser and my cam shoes were half worn as yours were. Figured I could have went another 15-20 thousand on them by there looks. Just replaced both pulleys and rear belt two weeks ago at 116,000 miles on the bike and the belt has no unusual markings/wear pattern at all on it. Would imagine I could have made  the rest of this upcoming riding season on it. Front pulley looked good, rear pulley had a couple of small spots where the plating was starting to flake off. A testament to Harley's longevity.
