Anyone have any miles on them? I think I will be replacing the front tire on my 2010 Ultra and probably will go with the AE. They can't be any worse than the Dunlop 408, can they? :nix:
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Jeffd

i have heard positive feedback and I am ordering a set soon.

hotbikes

I've got a set on my 11 FLHTK  but I've only got about 500 miles on them.  Seem to handle every bit as good as the stock tires.  It may be in my head but they seem to give a little softer ride too.  At this point I would definitely buy them again.

2010 Limited I've got about 12000 on my rear tire now, and it's working just fine! We'll see how long it lasts.

I'm guessing you mean miles? 12,000 miles is pretty good. How far do you wear them down before you change tires? I usually wait too long. :embarrassed:

Truck-looks like your getting the goody out of that one.  I usually run mine that far, and maybe a bit more depending on the time of year and any upcoming trips.  I know the ride suffers, but I like to get all I can out of it.  I know the safety factor isn't real good at that point but.......

I just want to know how you guys are getting that many miles out of rear tires.  I am replacing rear Metz 880s and Avon Venoms about to the cord at 6,300 (last Metz) to 7,500 last Avon on my bagger.  Only getting about 8,600 on the last Metz on the FXEF.

And yes, running them at proper inflation too.

I have never run Metz or Avon, but my understanding is they are softer rubber and will not wear like a stock dunlop. The rear 407 on my 2010 got replaced around 15,000 miles. I ran 402's and Elite III's on my 2005 and the E-III would run 15,000 on the back and over 25,000 miles on the front. The 402's not quite that far, maybe 12,000 on the front and 20,000 miles on the back. The front 408 on my 2010 has over 22,000 miles and is slightly cupped, and getting thin so I think I will change it out before I head out on vacation.

Oops! I guess I did!

Old Crow

Greg's right, Mark.  Those soft compound tires don't last.
I run the E3's on all three of our bikes.  I'm getting similar mileage to Greg on the baggers and better than that on the FXEF.  They handle the twistys pretty good too.  Oh, and they're priced right, too.
This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickock.

You're getting 12,000 Miles on an E3 on an older bagger running 130s !!! ?

Old Crow

Give or take a thousand or so.  The '87 bagger with the two up seat is usually on the low end of this range, while the '82 Shovel solo only is toward the high end.  Ain't got but 1/4" chicken strips on both of 'em, so I'm using pretty much the whole tire.
Running 45 psi in the rear and occasionally towing a trailer with the Shovel.
Funny thing, on the Shovel front tire I usually wear out the outsides of the tire before the center.  :smilep:

I was getting over 15,000 on a rear tire on my '05 Ultra, E-III's.

EL-AL

I used to run Metzler Marathons on my 00' softail, but the last two sets wore uneven. I even double checked the balance twice! They "Were" made in Germany but now their made in South America...probably the reason.
I've been running the 402's and love them!

PS...Most Ford cars are made in South America now...something to think about when buying your next car.

Well. I guess I'll have to try a set of E3s next to see if I can get that kind of life out of them.  Hasn't mattered much what tire I run. All these miles on various bikes for more than thirty years and 7000 miles is pretty much it. That works out to about 12,500 kilometers. Could be the bad twitch in my wrist .....

Super Dave

I run Elite III's on my 04 Ultra. I just got my rear replacement and the old one has almost 19k. I'm pretty easy on a tire. 50% 2 up. Handles great but I don't push it, obviously. At least not when wife is on the back.
