'09 Ultra, need to change the fuel filter.  Have the service manual, read through the procedures, seems straight forward, should be  simpler than the '04 Fatboy was.  One question, can the retaining ring be removed without the HD specialty tool?  Looks like a punch and hammer should be able to loosen it.  Looks similar to the setup on the '97 GMC truck and that came off very easily with a punch and hammer.
Thanks,
Don

Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

I have had the tank open on my 2010 a couple times and I see no reason to buy a tool to do it. A hammer and punch works fine. Cover the tank well with an old towel just in case.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Thanks for the replies.  Very easy without a special tool.  Also changed the filter without disconnecting any wires or hoses or taking the top plate completely out as outlined in the manual.

Although I removed mine with a big screwdriver and hammer without problems, it was scary.  With steel tools, it's easy to ding the gas tank, not only when loosening the ring, but also if a tool is dropped.  Towels are important.

This tool needs to be in the Homemade Tools section.  If I ever need to remove the ring again, I'll definitely take a few minutes to fab the tool.
