I have installed a few of them, here is a sheet of one of them with a baseline, they perform well everytime. This comparison is an 09 Street glide, the before is stage one with Rush slip ons, the after is addition of cams and tuning.
Max, I mow 3 acres here, if you have a garden tractor that runs like this bike you can mow my lawn.

If you don't have a sense of humor you probably have no sense at all.

Thanks for the reply, my bike is a stock 96 with PCV and auto tune, Bub Series 7 mufflers. This is the only other upgrade I'm thinking of doing. I ride 2 up most of the time, and loaded down on trips a good part of it. I was thinking this would be a good fit as I don't want to do any head work or the like. I know everyone has an opinion on this stuff just trying to get a sense if I'm thinking correctly.

I put them in my 06 Ultra 95" stock heads shaved .020 with a .030 gasket, Fulsac Tru dual conversion with Fatshotz huge improvement over the Andrews 37 cams that I had. Pulls great from just over idle to over 4000 rpms 2-up riding I have been getting 44-46 mpg and solo 46-48 mpg at 65-70 mph
I have no regrets with making the cam change on this bike

we`ve had very good results will them(BTW,i run .585`s in my garden tractor, ive got a big yard, got to cut it FAST)

scsharp

Thanks for the reply, I think I'm leaning to this mod. Any hints or other ideas are welcomed.

scsharp

Kirby, just curious, if someone wanted to use the 551 without the easy start option in a stock TC 96 motor. Do you think, or know if the 19 degree intake closing causes any hot starting difficulty? Seems like it would. I'm sure the easy start takes care of it, but just wonder about without it?

Set your compression ratio to 9.8-1

scsharp

Don't know about the 551s but the 585s in my 120 have mowed a lot of asphalt. :hyst:

The only thing I mow with the garden tractor here is dirt...

That curve is would make a good tractor cam.. Set the Rs to 4500 and as the load increases and RPMs drop and the torque increases to handle the load.. Only taken me 40 years to see it.. Seems like it would work real well for someone running the ET class.. Don't make any ET difference if you shift at 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500.. :embarrassed:

Maybe YES or NO... Go to sturgis on a typical day there and look at the HD dealer fixing bikes with starting problems. The dude in Cody Wy is full up on repairs. You got the chance to use the ES option don't throw it away. It is cheeper than replacing a stock starter in a year.

Ive used them w/o the EZ start on "cam only" 88" & 96" ers with no starting probs, when i do set the compression where I want (9.8-1-1),we do use the EZ starts

scsharp

Well I ordered the 551 ez start cams, thanks for everyone's input. :smiled:

I have a 98", .030 HG, 551 gear drive easy starts, 06 heads with some attention from Kirby, max flow air filter, Thundermax, 50mm zippers TB. I mostly ride by myself in city traffic stop light to stop light. I'm happy with it. I guess it depends on what riding you do. Wow, just noticed this thread was almost 2 years old!
