ah yes another cam question from a newbie.  i have a 103b.  looking for input.  what would be a good cam for a port polish, tb upgrade to 51mm and with or with out the thinner head gasket?  looking at a 54h, 57h tw5-6, and and tw-555.  all opinons welcome.  thanks for the info.

 It would be better to talk to the head porter that is doing/did the heads. Also depends greatly on how you ride. A little more info is needed. BTW, there are several on this site that will do great work and are very helpful with whatever you want.

   Pick a head porter and go from there.

I would like  to see a 5-6 in a factory 103, with stock heads.
57 works great.
What is your goal? a bolt in 57, 5-6 ...might just do it for you
Personally if I were to do a set of heads on a factory 103 , I wouldn't use any of the cams you mentioned. But that's just me.

what RPM do you want power in? what is your objective,HP/TQ output? theres really not a "ported head,bigger t.body" cam,it still comes down to what your looking for.feel free to give a call,we can go over a couple builds for you

All ya have to do is spend the additional $150+ on a Woods cam & run the compression to the moon...he'll have everything bottom end mid range and top end. No need to pay any attention to anything else...RIGHT LOL!!!       

well i was just wondering if a person could only do a port and polish to get the heads to flow good.  a tb upgrade since the heads would flow better and a cam to compliment the better flowing setup.  kinda like upgrading a carb. intake and heads on a car.  ideally this should increase throttle response, hp, and torque throughout the entire rpm range.  you would just have to find cam that would work in the rpm range you would want to run in.  my case would be low to mid range.  if you only improve the efficiency of the air going in and out compression shouldn't go up much right?  i seen a setup with like this (now i can't find it anymore) with dyno numbers well over 100 hp/tq with a nice curves that only used a bigger tb, port and polished heads by dewey, with a stock head gasket using a woods 5-6 cam.

I used Dewey head work and the Woods TW5-6 cam in my 103. It made 103/107.  I've seen some pretty good dyno runs with the 57H also. My dyno is post in the dyno section posted back in early Spring.

I would try to maximize my investment with a little more cam .

We effectively use/work with, a broad spectrum of cams here.
S&S, Crane, S/E, Andrews, and Wood cams as well.
They all have their place, and all work well, set up correctly.

Was torn between the 574 and the 57 but ran across a deal the other day on a 251 I'm gonna buy. Glad it made it to your short list. Hope it will be okay in a 96, don't think I'll go bigger yet. Had a terrible December financially.

Yup...planning on that.   9.8:1 gonna fly?  Was hoping to avoid compression releases in the interest of saving money. Shooting for about 180 +/- ccp. If I go 103, it'll push me a little over 10:1 and a little over 190ccp if I'm figuring correctly. And another $450-$500 bucks...

I'm sure these guys know way more than me but I was terribly disappointed with 251's when set at 180.

What do you want for them?

My 251 is set around 190/195.I really think it would run even better with MORE.Thinking about taking a few more CCs out of the heads.With 11/1 and 86cc I'm only at 9.6 corrected,need more
